The perfect pair of sunglasses

THIS IS HOW YOU'LL FIND THEM!

Perfect sunnies

How can you choose the perfect sunglasses?

Did you know UV radiation is more harmful to children's eyes than to adults eyes? Your iris contains less pigment and your pupil is larger. Babies even have a transparent lens and this allows 90% of UVA and 50% of UVB rays to penetrate to the retina. The body's own protection develops over the years and only after the age of 25 are some of these rays absorbed by the retina!

As you probably know, the sun can serious damage your eyes. Eyes damaged by UV radiation are more likely to suffer from eye diseases such as cataracts, eye melanomas and corneal inflammations. Time to get some cool sunglasses! But how do you choose from all the options available everywhere?

Tip 1: check the UV protection

On the lenses or the frame is usually stated which UV protection it offers. You need it to say 'UV400' or 'UV100%' which means that the sunglasses offer maximum protection against UV radiation. Note that the colour or darkness of the lenses say nothing about the UV protection!

Tip 2: choose the right light absorption

Inside the temple of the frame you can find the light absorption of the sunglasses. There is a CE mark which is followed by a number (1 is the lowest absorption and 4 the highest). Recommended is category 3: you will not be blinded by the sunlight but also not too much in the dark (mostly important in traffic and when playing sports).

Tip 3: the best frame

Your sunglasses need to sit good around your face, with little or no space between the frame and your face. For your comfort, choose a lightweight frame which is also flexible and easy to adjust. And: choose what you like in the colour that you love and feel totally cool!
